Easy RearView System

Additional information on the components in the Easy Rearview System

Monitor

The BD-21 and BD-22 kits come with our own BD-56ERV 14cm (5.6inch) Colour TFT LCD monitor, that has dual video input, input select on the monitor (some competitor's products only have input select via remote control), auto-on and pivoting mount. 12 volt power for the monitor comes from the supplied cigarette lighter adapter or can be hard wired and we include a connector for that purpose.

Monitor Mounting Boom

The flexible mounting boom is made of powdercoated industrial flex to Aussievan's own design and ships in both the BD-21 and BD-22 kits. The monitor is able to pivot 180° on top of the mounting boom so that the passenger can easily view it as well as the driver. The boom is attached to the right hand side passenger seat bolt via a universal mounting bracket suitable for most cars, SUVs and 4WDs.

Monitor Dash Stand

The BD-41 monitor dash stand is available as an accessory and is used to mount the monitor on the dash board where the attachment of the mounting boom is impractical (which is only in some motorhomes, buses and trucks).

Please note: we don't recommend the use of the dash stand in Cars, SUVs or 4WDs, as the monitor in this position will obscure the driver's forward vision. It can be used safely in a Motorhome or Bus because of the seating position and large dash of these vehicles.

The dash stand is easily attached to the dash via a double sided adhesive (included), and the unique design of the metal base can be molded to suit the curves of the dash to make sure it attaches securely. When in place, the monitor can pivot easily due to our carefully designed pivot mechanism which is exclusive to Aussievan.

Cameras

Specific cameras are chosen for their various features, ease of mounting and best results in a given situation and incorporated into the kits. All cameras are shock and water proof and have passed our stringent quality control tests for clarity and reliability.

For the rear of a caravan, camper, motorhome, truck, boat or bus we recommend the 90° field of view, Infrared Night and Day Camera. This camera is best suited to be mounted high on the back of the caravan or motorhome and is easy to adjust up and down to achieve the perfect field of vision when used in this application. It provides clear colour image by day and an excellent Infrared image at night.

The Night and Day Infrared Camera will allow the driver to see a clear image behind the caravan of sufficient detail to be useful and without 'fisheye' distortion because of its 90° field of view. A camera with a wider field of view can often mean the objects behind appear too small to be seen clearly in the monitor. We have tested several different cameras for use on the caravan with fields of view from 90° up to 120° and found that 90° is the optimum for this application.

For the rear of a car, SUV or 4WD we recommend the 150° field of view, Miniature Number Plate Camera . This camera offers the best field of view of any camera on the market and allows the driver to see what is almost immediately beneath the camera (including the tow ball on most cars) and out to both sides of the vehicle's bumper bar. This is critical in its intended application, which is to make sure your child or pet is seen before you reverse no matter where behind they are standing and to be able to easily hitch your trailer.

No other camera we've seen from any supplier offers the quality picture and field of view that this one does, making ours the safest system on the market and the most suitable for cars SUVs and 4wds. It is easy to mount using the existing screws that hold the number plate, and therefore no holes need to be drilled in the vehicle.

The number plate camera is also sensitive in low light conditions, and produces very good results at night, despite not having the infrared capabilities of other cameras. The illumination provided by the reversing lights of the vehicle is more than enough to see an effective image at night whilst reversing.

This camera is supplied with a thin CCD cable which makes it easier to install onto the rear of the vehicle when compared to the Night and Day Infrared Camera. The thin cable is easier to pass through the various nooks and crannies of the rear tailgate on wagons and through the dust sealing rubber grommets that other cables (eg number plate lights and tail lights) pass through, creating a seamless installation.

A significant cost of any rear view camera system is the installation charges incurred if you choose to have it professionally installed. In addition to the great features, we have designed our system to be the easiest to install of any on the market. This can save you that extra 1 or 2 hours labour cost an autoelectrician may charge you for if you installed one of our competitor's systems.

12/24 volt regulator

We now include with all kits a 12/24 volt regulator which provides clean 12 volt power to the Camera and Monitor, absorbing any power spikes that are produced as the vehicle is started. Using the regulator also means that our kits can be used in applications where the vehicle's electrical system is 24 volts rather than 12 volts.

The reglator has all the connectors on it to just plug into the system, and is compatible with the cigarette lighter power plug or hard-wire connector we provide in the kits. Use of the regulator means that our system will be more reliable in the long term and it will also mean that any deficiencies or problems in the vehicles electrical system (such as over voltage conditions) will not affect the camera or monitor.

Cables and Dust Caps

Cables are plastic coated and double insulated against water, dust and the wear and tear of outback travel. Aluminium dust caps are included for use at the trailer connection, to cover the open ends of the cable when not in use. The wiring harness is specifically designed for use with the Aussievan monitor and cameras.

Unlike some of our competitors, we don't use a 1.5m 'Woza' trailer curly cable connector, as we believe all this does is add unwanted complexity to the design. Our system is neater and easier to install as there are no brackets to attach to the car or trailer, and there is only one cable connection point instead of two, which makes our system more reliable.

NRMA Report on safer reversing

The NRMA have recently release a report tabling the effectiveness of reversing cameras in helping to prevent reversing accidents involving children, and assessing the safest cars for reversing. Sadly, very few cars are coming from the showroom with a reversing camera fitted, and thus accidents involving children will continue to occur. Don't let your child become a statistic!
